Recently, there has been news in several media outlets that MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Fighters have been using CBD for their recovery. CBD, which is a chemical compound stemming from the cannabis plant and is known for its therapeutic effects. It is in the news because apparently CBD has some miraculous benefits. The surprising thing about this new development is that now they have been actually allowed to use CBD. Their actual anti-doping authority has essentially allowed them to do that. In this blog, we talk about different things that are relating to this new development and why athletes from MMA are using it for their recovery process. Naturally, things about CBD muscle recovery, CBD muscle relaxant and CBD oil for muscle pain will also be discussed.
In order to understand how CBD is helping MMA fighters, understand CBD first:
As mentioned before, CBD, which is also called Cannabidiol, is a chemical compound belonging to a group called Cannabinoids. There can be rather different types and great numbers of cannabinoids. These cannabinoids are able to interact with the cannabinoid receptors found in our bodies. The cannabinoid receptors in the body come in unique names and different types. This is the same as their functions. The most common ones are called CB1 and CB2, respectively.
CB1 is found in the areas relating to the central nervous system, while CB2 is found near the areas of the immune system. Both of these make up the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). While there are other cannabinoid receptors in our bodies but the most prominent ones are CB1 and CB2. These are the only ones that are part of the ECS. All of this information pertains to CBD muscle recovery, CBD muscle relaxant and CBD oil for muscle pain as these will be discussed in upcoming words.

ECS is the system responsible for a range of different functions pertaining to the inner workings of our bodies. It is responsible for homeostasis (balancing of the body) and modulating the endocrine system i.e. modulating dopamine or anandamide. It is also responsible for regulating pain, emotions, mood, stress and anxiety. Different cannabinoids are able to interact with it in different ways. All of this information pertains to CBD muscle recovery, CBD muscle relaxant and CBD oil for muscle pain as these will be discussed in the ensuing words
There are certain different types of cannabinoids. One of these is the one called Endocannabinoid. The ECS is named after these cannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are essentially created in a vertebrate’s body itself, which we are also us. In other words, these are made endogenously by the endocrine system inside us or other vertebrates. These are created by the precursor lipid found in the neurons of our body. Anandamide is one well-known example of this type of cannabinoid. Anandamide is a great ally of CBD when it comes to the functioning of the body and CBD interacting with it. It is used by the ECS for a range of different bodily functions and it itself can also interact with ECS cannabinoid receptors.
Phytocannabinoids are the plant-based ones, hence the name. Most of the times the plant these phytocannabinoids derive from is the ever famous cannabis plant. CBD and its related compound THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) belong to this group. CBD is not psychoactive, which means it cannot intoxicate someone or something like a pet upon its usage. THC, on the other hand, isn’t like that as it is indeed intoxicating and thus psychoactive. Many different species of the cannabis plant can have either of these in varying concentrations. Again, either of these can be present at the same in a single species of the cannabis plant and can also be absent from one of the unique species of the cannabis plant. Hemp is the species of the cannabis plant that has CBD predominantly, and marijuana is the one with having THC as a predominant compound.
A Synthetic cannabinoid is another one of the many types of chemical compounds called cannabinoids. Cannabinoids of this tribe are primarily created in a lab setting. This means these are created artificially, and for this precise reason, synthetic cannabinoids can be highly potent. This means this type should not be recommended for human consumption. These are created for industrial purposes to mimic the effects of the actual cannabinoids which are born of the natural world. Why are the MMA fighters are looking to CBD for their recovery processes?
CBD is antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant and anti-irritable. It has got everything under one roof. It is able to release its therapeutic effects without inducing any of the intoxicating or any other profound side effects. There is. minimal side-effects attached to it. Medicines for similar purposes can have higher side-effects with them. CBD is also strong in muscles recovery and can be a great muscle relaxant. Lots of athletes are already using it, especially for muscles recovery related to different sports.
Strong muscles are needed for MMA style sport. Otherwise, one is not able to become eligible to enter a championship related to it, let alone become a champion. This can help with a fighting style if it is hard to do, i.e. involves picking up the opponent in a grappling hook. For this, the benefits of muscle recovery and muscle relaxation will be needed. This can be great reasoning behind why, now, many MMA fighters are using things like CBD muscle recovery or CBD muscle relaxant.
The physical demands of the sport:
The previous point isn’t the only reasoning behind their use of CBD. There can also be the rigorous and demanding physical demands of MMA. One needs to go through strength conditioning, sparring and discipline training. This can take a toll on the person involved in this kind of training. We might say that even the trainer must get tired of this hard-hitting training for the fighter. During this kind of training, pain and inflammation can also arise, same as it tends to happen with this kind of sport. CBD is great at handling situations like these.
Cannabinoidiol is way better versed in treating and thwarting the pain and inflammation that can arise because of hard-working training like this one. CBD just so happens to bind to the same pain receptors from where we as human beings can feel the pain. As an agonist for many of the cannabinoid receptors found in the body rather than binding to the receptor, CBD just gets stuck in them and blocks the way. This way proinflammatory signals are sent and one does not feel pain, cramps, and even tiredness. This could be another reason why the MMA fighters are taking CBD in their recovery process. The recovery process includes using CBD muscle recovery products or CBD muscle relaxant.
The psychological demands of the sport:
Now, this is where it gets a lot more interesting. MMA is as much as a battle of wits as it is a battle of punches and kicks. If one is not strategizing in and outside the ring then one is planning to fail, miserably. The thing about MMA is that it can really be excessively stressful even when one is outside the ring. The stress and anxiety are accentuated when the player is inside the ring. CBD helps the player take the edge away from the sport. Perhaps, this is why it is the case that many from the MMA community are practicing the use of CBD as part of their training regimen. This may very well involve using CBD muscle recovery products or a CBD muscle relaxant to get the additional edge of the muscles too.
Stress may be a contributing factor for this sport but there is something else too. It is the pressure of fighting, which by different accounts is topped up to a maximum level on the day of the fight. While the training before the match might be physical, the time around or before the match is always mental. No wonder, the entourage is always strongly encouraging when the fighters walk the ramp leading to the ring. A huge mass of the crowd adds to it as now the pressure is humongous as it is coming even from the crowd, which is cheering (or at times booing the player) permeates the player’s mind.

Because of this, the player also becomes aware and complex about his/her-self and stops thinking like a fighter. A million other things are hopping around the mind. Unfortunate as it may sound, CBD can also help control the situation around this kind of thing. CBD can fight the fight or flight response pretty well. When this kind of response is more than excessive then something needs to be done. This is where CBD come in and hit the response from where it is born and doesn’t let the user of CBD be pressurized. This can be evidenced by a study published in Brazil Journal of Psychiatry to test participants in the stimulated public speaking setting.
The setting was also including a lot of anxiety-inducing triggers. In it, the researchers tried to find the findings on how the flight or fight response (fear and anxiety) could be mitigated. The results of their preclinical and clinical studies were presented in harmony and were essentially saying that CBD really does significantly decreases anxiety and fear. This can also be done using CBD muscles relaxant. This is because all of the CBD products are antidepressants, even something that is related to CBD muscle recovery.
CBD is also perfect for relaxation and sleep, which contributes to recovery:
The greatest muscle recovery is only possible through better sleep and even some form of relaxation. Due to the physical and psychological trauma faced by MMA athletes, sleep can be a hard thing to attain. It does not only becomes hard to get by, especially because of their routine but can sometimes be impossible. The situation can become dire when the player gets afflicted with insomnia. All of this is reversible by the use of something that is CBD related like a CBD muscle relaxant. CBD is a type of mild sedative, which neither puts the user in a couch-lock situation and can also help bring better sleep to the user.

The user in this sense can be the MMA fighter. Muscle training, the hard-hitting practice of the sport itself and the no-nonsense routine of the fight can take a toll. It can take a toll on the brain and also the muscles. Without proper sleep, both of them might wither away in a matter of months. A professional fighter shouldn’t want that. Sleep is the thing, that recovers the muscle (the rebuilding always happen during sleep) and the brain (because it always needs its rest for proper functioning). For that, something that either relates to CBD muscle recovery or and something that is indeed a CBD muscle relaxantcan help bring the fighter a fine sleep and thus better recovery.
The legal status of CBD usage in MMA:
The day when the provisional laws of Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018 were signed into the new 2018 Farm Bill, laws and regulations of MMA were changed too. As of now, CBD aka Cannabidiol is not included in the prohibited list issued by World Anti-Doping Agency. All other cannabinoids are still under the ban and CBD products that might have additional and different cannabinoids such as THC (especially this one!) are still not allowed. This means something that either relates to CBD muscle recovery or and something that is indeed CBD muscle relaxant, which does not have other cannabinoids are allowed. In other words, CBD products and CBD oil are essentially allowed to be used by the fighters.
It should be noted that CBD and CBD oil are the same things but the latter is in oil form made with the help of different oils such as olive oil. This means CBD oil for muscle pain would be more than fine. In this blog, we have essentially talked about CBD relating to MMA and why MMA fighters decide to turn to CBD Oil for muscle pain
